Support Colombian Peacebuilders

In 2016, Colombians signed a historic peace deal to end their country’s brutal, 50 year armed conflict. Today, however, the peace deal is under threat as parties to the agreement reverse their commitments.

+Peace is teaming up with the production team of The Witness to raise visibility of Colombia’s peacebuilders and mobilize support for their fight to protect their peace deal.

The murders of his family in rural Colombia could have inspired a young Jesús to pick up a gun; instead, he bought a camera.

Jesús Abad Colorado dedicated the next 25 years to documenting Colombia’s war.

In The Witness, Jesús goes in search of the subjects of his most iconic photographs to explore what it means to forgive the horrors of the past.

Following preview screenings at Curzon UK and the Colombian Film Festival, The Witness launches internationally on NETFLIX on 28th June 2019.

+Peace and the Alliance for Peacebuilding are honored to serve as social impact partners for the film, helping show the world the power of peacebuilding and mobilize public support for Colombian peacebuilders’ fight to protect their peace process.

Watch the Witness through the link below, and keep your eyes out for global film screenings and discussion events this summer!

In 2016, Colombians signed a historic peace deal to end their country’s brutal, 50 year armed conflict. Today, however, the peace deal is under threat as key parties to the agreement reverse their commitments.

Colombian peacebuilders and human rights defenders are leading a campaign to defend the peace.

They are working to collect 1 million signatures in Colombia to safeguard critical elements of the peace accord - and they seek international support.

Take Action below to urge United Nations Secretary General António Guterres and the international diplomatic community to support Colombian peacebuilders and their effort to defend the peace.

Rodeemos el Dialogo

Rodeemos el Dialogo is a leading peacebuilding organization in Colombia. They are a transnational, non-partisan network of Colombians and friends from Colombia that emerged in the United Kingdom between September and October 2012, when peace talks between the Santos government and the FARC began.

ReD supports the negotiated solution of armed conflicts and contributes to the construction of peace by strengthening a culture of dialogue. ReD believes in the power of a dialogue based on six principles:

  1. The respect to listen and value difference;

  2. The generosity to share the public good;

  3. The honesty to rebuild trust across lines of division;

  4. The solidarity to put oneself in the place of others;

  5. The co-responsibility to celebrate and build from difference and understanding, and

  6. Self-criticism to revaluate, change, and grow.

ReD builds alliances with universities and organizations - governmental and non-governmental, social movements and public figures - to integrate them into an expression of active citizenship. ReD builds spaces for dialogue across Colombia to express hopes, doubts and concerns about negotiation and implementation, and to propose reconciliation initiatives.

“Every day, peacebuilders are the people on the frontlines of conflict. In Colombia, Jesús is a true peace builder, using his photographs as building blocks of peace. “
